ELA 8 - Remembrance Day Poems - Due Tuesday, Nov. 3

In honour of Remembrance Day, which is coming up on November 11, the Royal Canadian Legion is sponsoring a poetry contest. Here’s what I want from these poems:

• Stanzas that are 4 lines long
• AT LEAST 3 stanzas (12 lines)
• Rhyming – Either AABB or ABAB or ABCB

These poems are to be about war. This can be World Wars I and II, the War in Afghanistan, or other conflicts. Here are some suggestions:
• You can try to imagine what the soldiers are going through, and the battle conditions.
• If you like, you can write about what the families of soldiers are forced to deal with.
• You can write about how you feel to be a Canadian when some of our young men and women are overseas fighting for the freedom of the people of Afghanistan.
